Government representatives from Taiwan and China urged a deeper collaboration on the so-called 5G network technology for the first time during the annual cross-strait telecommunications conference held in Greater Taichung, Taiwan, as reported by Taiwan's Commercial Times on August 28. China's delegate from MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) has reportedly invited MediaTek to participate in China's IMT-2020 Promotion Group - the government-led working group for 5G technologies - and will also visit HTC, Delta Electronics, Foxconn, and other big-name companies in Taiwan. Aside from equipment procurement and technology transfer, greater cooperation on R&D, standards setting, and brand promotion among Taiwanese and Chinese companies is also expected in respect of the 5G technology development in the future.
